It is with great pride we announce Maureen Payne, President of Age Concern, is being awarded the British Empire Medal in the 2020 Queens New Years´honours list . This comes as recognition for her seventeen years of charitable work, ten years as President., she was eventually presented with her medal by the Bristish Ambassador to Spain His Excellency Hugh Ellott, at a medal ceremony on 9th December 2021

.

Since Maureen became the President of Age Concern she has helped it to grow from an organisation of 50 volunteers to one with 150 volunteers, nearly  all of whom she knows and cares about. She gives up a huge amount of her time to ensure the smooth running of all the different aspects of the organisation

Maureen was instrumental in the expansion of the services offered by Age Concern, for example, she organised for a chiropodist to attend the centre weekly to help our beneficiaries who cannot access this type of service elsewhere. Maureen also organised free Spanish lessons for the local community.

As the President, Maureen is regularly called upon to give talks about the organisation. She always attends when invited in order to promote Age Concern and what they can offer the older people in the community. She has worked very hard to promote a good working relationship within the community and has been part of an initiative to work closely with the local doctors surgery where there are now regular meetings to discuss ways to help the elderly in the area. For instance, many of our volunteers and beneficiaries received their flu vaccination at the day centre administered by the local doctor’s surgery.

Maureen spends at least three days a week at the centre overseeing administrative tasks and ensuring that all the beneficiaries and volunteers are well and happy. She is always available to offer her help and guidance when needed and genuinely cares about the association and everyone who is involved with it.
